Proposal

Culminating Senior Project Proposal

I would simply like to make people happy. Yes, very broad idea but mainly make children happy. I would like to work with Brenda to make a mural in a children's center to help children forget about their problem for at least one second. We are working together because we have both seen that working together during our mural painting of our gym we have found a passion of painting. I would specifically like to help out children with cancer, or any sort of special needs.

One of our options is painting a children's center such as CPS (Contact: my sister works at a psychology office so she talks to them fairly frequently and could give us numbers to different locations), Make A Wish Foundation (Contact: look for different locations and talk to them personally), or even Texas Children's Hospital (Contact: we would try to personally contact the President and Chief Executive Officer, Marc A. Wallace).

With painting a mural there are some issues. The first issue is if the locations will allow us to paint a mural. The second issue is time. We will need to know what days we will be going to the location and by when we want to finish it. The third issue is the conservation of the mural. The fourth issue has to do with the paint. For example if we paint inside of a hospital, some of the paint could be toxic and could harm the children.

Our idea for the mural really depends on where and for who the mural will be done. According to parents.com, children feel happy when their voice is heard and they are able to express themselves. So for the mural I would like to meet the children and want to know what they want to express and even have them help out. Once we know what we and the children want the mural to look like we will begin to paint smiles!

  1. Making kids happy is not as broad as you think, painting is a mural seems like very awesome idea. It seems that painting makes you two very happy and satisfied. Maybe you should try to transmit that passion that you have for painting and to make a stronger impact. Painting a mural, however, is a really big idea but I would like to ask how are you really going to know if this particular mural is going to make them happy versus the many others in the world?

  2. I love your idea. It is creative and I think definitely helps the kids. When I see a painting that I like, it gets my mind off of everything else. If you want to know what makes them happy, why don't you let the kids paint the mural? You could do a sketch of what they want. Let them paint the sketch. When it comes to actually doing the mural, you could copy their ideas onto the wall. This idea raises many questions like: What group of children are you reaching out? (What children would you pick to help you do the sketch?). This is just a suggestion to give you something extra to think about. :)

  3. Where do you stand with this now? What progress have you made?

  4. I have talked to a few people who are willing to sponsor the project. Finding a location is the more difficult part and we are still working on that. We plan to start painting in the spring.

  5. I think that you both are in a pretty good position because not only are you both doing things that make you happy and others happy, but you also realize the obstacles that you have to overcome in order to make this a successful project. Not everyone knows what problems they will have to try to overcome until they are further into conducting their project like me for instance. I'm not quite sure what I will have to overcome in order to be successful. I agree with Genesis. Y'all should definitely get the children involved. Are you and the kids the only one's painting this mural or will ya'll also ask an artist to help you out and guide you?
